Pyrethroid-Resistant and Susceptible Triatoma infestans (Klug, 1834) (Hemiptera, Triatominae): Analysis of Their Vectorial Characteristics by Metacyclogenesis, Feeding/Defecation Patterns, and Parasite Load

چکیده

Populations of Triatomas infestans with different susceptibility to pyrethroid insecticides were reported have distinct evolutionary and epidemiological characteristics. We aimed at evaluating metacyclogenesis parasite load as measures vector competence feeding/defecation patterns vectorial capacity estimates a group resistant (“R”) susceptible (“S”) T. infestans. Third instar nymphs each fed on mice infected Trypanosoma cruzi (Tulahuén strain, DTU VI). Parasite concentration in blood was quantified by real-time PCR (qPCR) for mouse. The time which feeding started, the span feeding, volume consumed, taken defecate measured. At 30 days post-feeding, feces analyzed parallel optical microscopy (percentage metacyclic trypomastigotes, % MT), qPCR (total DNA). ratio parasites consumed/defecated used estimate parasites’ survival multiplication inside triatomines’ gut. It estimated that trypomastigote 6.6 obtained “R” nymphs, 7.9 “S”. consumed higher blood, had lower MT their (lower competence), took longer capacity) than

Susceptibility characterization of residual Brazilian populations of Triatoma infestans Klug, 1834 (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) to deltamethrin pyrethroid.

INTRODUCTION Despite years of efforts towards the elimination of Triatoma infestans in Brazil, residual foci still persist in some areas of the States of Bahia and Rio Grande do Sul. The persistence of these T. infestans populations in the country has two different origins of equal concern: operational failures or insecticide resistance. Thus, the objective of this study was to characterize the...

Eye colour as a genetic marker for fertility and fecundity of Triatoma infestans (Klug, 1834) Hemiptera, Reduviidae, Triatominae.

Eye colour of Triatoma infestans is controlled at a single autosomal locus, with black-eye as the dominant gene and red-eye as the recessive. Inheritance of these characters follows a classical Mendelian system, enabling eye colour to be used as a marker for studies of mating frequency. We found no significant differences in oviposition rates and egg hatching rates irrespective of parental phen...

Toxicity of pyrethroids and repellency of diethyltoluamide in two deltamethrin-resistant colonies of Triatoma infestans Klug, 1834 (Hemiptera: Reduviidae).

The aim of the currrent investigation was to evaluate (a) the toxicity of three pyrethroids (deltamethrin, lambda-cyhalothrin, and tetramethrin); (b) the effect of these insecticides on the locomotor activity; and (c) the repellent effect of N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET) on two deltamethrin-resistant strains of Triatoma infestans from Argentina (El Chorro and La Toma), and one susceptible stra...

Behavioural response of Triatoma infestans (Klug) (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) to quinazolines.

The behavioural responses of the haematophagous bug Triatoma infestans towards some previously identified components of its faeces: 4-methylquinazoline, 2,4- dimethylquinazoline and their mixtures were evaluated using a video tracking system. Fifth instar nymphs and females but not males were significantly attracted to polyethylene glycol formulations of 4-methyl + 2,4-dimethylquinazoline (50 m...

Toxicity of non-pyrethroid insecticides against Triatoma infestans (Hemiptera: Reduviidae).

Triatoma infestans (Klug) is the main vector of Chagas disease, which is a public health concern in most Latin American countries. The prevention of Chagas disease is based on the chemical control of the vector using pyrethroid insecticides. In the last decade, different levels of deltamethrin resistance have been detected in certain areas of Argentina and Bolivia. Because of this, alternative ...
